Biografija:
Prof. dr. sc. Goran Šimić, dr. med., redoviti je profesor neuroznanosti i anatomije u trajnom zvanju, predstojnik Zavoda za neuroznanost Hrvatskog instituta za istraživanje mozga i pročelnik Vijeća predmeta “Temelji neuroznanosti” Medicinskog fakulteta Sveučilišta u Zagrebu. U okviru Zavoda za neuroznanost, prof. Šimić vodi Laboratorij za razvojnu neuropatologiju. Diplomirao je na Medicinskom fakultetu Sveučilišta u Zagrebu 1992. godine, gdje je i doktorirao 1998. godine. Njegov laboratorij ima dugogodišnje iskustvo u neuropatološkoj analizi razvojnih i neurodegenerativnih poremećaja, kao i međunarodnu suradnju u proučavanju bioloških biljega bolesti mozga, napose Alzheimerove bolesti. Nenad Bogdanović

Biografija:
Nenad Bogdanović je liječnik, specijalist neurolog i gerijatar te  profesor gerijatrije na Karolinska Institutu i  Sveučilišnoj bolnici Karolinska u Stockholmu. Rođen je u Zagrebu gdje se školuje i završava Medicinski fakultet. Radi kao asistent profesor na Zavodu za anatomiju i neuroanatomiju Medicinskog fakulteta Zagreb i liječnik u primarnoj zdravstvenoj zaštiti, potom specijalizira neurologiju za Sveučilišnu bolnicu u Blatu  te odlazi na subspecijalizaciju iz područja demencija na Karolinska Institut u Švedsku. Od 1990. do 1993. godine bio je gost istraživač i stipendist Vlade Republike Hrvatske, Kraljevine Švedske i Zaklade Sandoz za gerontološka istraživanja na Karolinska Institutu. Od 1993. godine konzultant je neuropatolog Zavoda za neuropatologiju Sveučilišne bolnice Karolinska. 1998.godine doktorira na Karolinskom Institutu  s disertacijom “Alzheimer’s Disease: Towards a multifaceted approach in diagnosis”. Nakon završenog doktorata te specijalizacije iz gerijatrije, njegovo uže  područje kliničkog i znanstveno istraživačkog rada su neurodegenerativne bolesti od neuropatološke do rane kliničke dijagnostike. Od 1999. godine je na Karolinska Institutu voditelj znanstvenog laboratorija za neurobiologiju neurodegenerativnih bolesti te ravnatelj švedske Biobanke mozgova. Predstojnik je Klinike za neurogerijatriju, voditelj znanstvenog i razvojnog odjela klinike te Centra za poremećaje pamćenja.  Obavljao je funkciju medicinskog direktora za neuroznanost u terapijskom području Alzheimerove bolesti u renomiranim farmaceutskim  tvrtkama od 2007. do 2012. godine. Kombinira medicinsku i znanstvenu stručnost s izvrsnim komunikacijskim i prezentacijskim vještinama te iskustvom u razvoju lijekova. Nagrađen je 2004. godine najvišom pedagoškom nagradom Karolinska Instituta. Suotkrivač je dvije genetske mutacije Alzheimerovoj bolesti, suosnivač europske organizacije BrainNet Europe i nositelj tri patenta iz područja neurobiologije.  Gostujući je profesor gerijatrije na Sveučilištu Oslo u Norveškoj kao i  gostujući profesor na bostonskom sveučilištu u SAD-u, te na  zagrebačkom i riječkom Sveučilištu u Hrvatskoj. Član je Povjerenstva za gerijatriju Ministarstva Zdravlja Republike Hrvatske i prvi licenciran specijalist gerijatar u Republici Hrvatskoj. Član je Hrvatske Liječničke komore i mnogobrojnih internacionalnih udruženja, te istraživač voditelj na nacionalnim i internacionalnim projektima.  Citiranost 13892, H-score 63, i10 index -170.

Biografija:
Betsan Corkhill is a Lifestyle Health and Wellbeing Coach who specialises in working with people living with long-term health problems, particularly pain. She has many years clinical experience as a former senior physiotherapist and is a passionate advocate for a whole-person approach to health, from managing day-to-day stress and life’s inevitable challenges through to managing ill-health. She has been researching the meditative, creative and social benefits of knitting since 2005. On realising these benefits could be enhanced with knowledge, she developed the concept of Therapeutic Knitting to deliberately improve wellbeing, health and manage illness. Alberto Costa

Wool therapy: a new approach to health and wellbeing

Biografija:

Alberto Costa MD is CEO of the European School of Oncology (ESO), established in Milan in 1982. Born in Biella, Northern Italy, 9/9/1951 Costa had his education in Milan: classical high school studies followed by a degree in Medicine. He was trained in cancer surgery at Istituto Nazionale Tumori from 1980 to 1994. He contributed as clinical adviser to the design of the European Institute of Oncology in Milan, where he worked as surgeon and investigator until 2000. He then moved to Pavia where he established a new breast unit at Fondazione Maugeri, that he directed until 2011. He also served as advisor for the Bank of Cyprus, to assist them in the design and construction of the Oncology Centre in Nicosia. He led the Multimedica Group’s breast unit, in Milan, Italy, and the Canton Ticino Breast Unit, Lugano, Switzerland until 2016.

He was editor in chief of the journal The Breast from 2003 to 2015 and a member of the editorial board of Nature Reviews Clinical Oncology. He has also been the Editor, from 2015 to 2019, of the ESO magazine, CancerWorld. Author of over 250 scientific publications, his H+ index is 51.

Co-founder of ABC, Advanced Breast Cancer conference and recipient of several awards (including the ESMO and the Israel Cancer Association awards)

Co- founder of Europa Donna, the European Breast Cancer Coalition, he also founded Europa Uomo, the patient advocacy movement on prostate cancer. He has served as Secretary General of the European Organisation for the Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) and the Federation of European Cancer Societies (FECS), both in Brussels. He actively contributed to the establishment and development of the American Italian Cancer Foundation (AICF) in New York, of which is member of the Advisory Board.

He is currently retired from clinical practice and since 2021 serves as special advisor of the EU Commissioner for Health, Mrs Stella Kyriakides, for cancer policy.

Professor John Harrison is an expert psychologist with a special interest in cognition. John is Principal Consultant at Metis Cognition, a psychology practice established to advise with the selection and successful integration of cognitive testing into therapeutic development programs. He is also an Associate Professor with the AUmc Alzheimer Center and Visiting Professor at King’s College London. Biografija:
Kučuk Osman je oženjen i otac troje odrasle djece. Ekspert za demenciju sa polja psihologije. Autor više brošura, naučnih i stručnih članaka a izdao je i dvije knjige. Autor je smjernica „Demencija u vrijeme pandemije Covid-19“ koje su zvanične smjernice FBiH. Koautor je transnacionalnih smjernica „Interprofessional management of Dementia“ korištenih za INDEED Online learning platformu finansiranu od EU fonda INTERREG Danube, prevednu na 5 jezika. Predsjednik je Organizacionog Odbora iCoDem- Međunarodni kongres o demenciji. Predavač i trener edukacija na temu njege osoba sa demencijom, a kreator je i vrlo uspješnog „Programa rehabilitacije osoba sa demencijom“ u Centru za demenciju u Sarajevu. Savjetnik je smjernica „Towards a dementia inclusive society“ WHO toolkit for dementia-friendly initiatives. Predsjednik je Radne Grupe za izradu strategije za borbu sa demencijom u FBiH. Inicijator je više naučnih istraživanja provednih u Centru za demenciju. Autor je potvrđenog naučnog rada o broju oboljelih osoba od demencije u BiH. Trenutno je direktor Centra za demenciju u Sarajevu.


Štefanija Lukič Zlobec

Dementia friendly society and dementia friendly points

Biografija: 
Štefanija Lukič Zlobec started working in the field of dementia after her husband got early-onset dementia at the age of 50. It was in the year 2000, when not much was known or said about dementia. Her husband Jaša, who was then a member of the Slovenian Parliament and before the Ambassador of Slovenia in Brussels, was diagnosed with dimentia in 2005, five years after first symptoms appeared. The diagnosis was made by Dr. Aleš Kogoj, specialist in psychiatry at the University Clinic in Ljubljana. At the suggestion of Dr Kogoj, who founded Spominčica in 1997 and was its first president, she became active in the field of dementia. Together they gave the initiative to the Ministry of Health to prepare the Strategy on Dementia in 2009.  The Strategy was adopted in 2016 for the period of 2016 – 2020.

As the President of Spominčica, she played a key role in taking the organisation to the international level. She initiated the membership of Spominčica in Alzheimer Europe and Alzheimer’s Disease International. She also expanded the range of activities in which Spominčica is involved, including educational training programmes, annual international conferences, Alzheimer Cafes and the network of dementia friendly points. She was successful during European elections in 2015 and 2019 in having  Members of European Parliament sign a proposal of Alzheimer Europe that dementia becomes a priority for public health. On her initiative, Spominčica hosted the 25th annual conference of Alzheimer Europe in Ljubljana in 2015.

From 2014-2018  she was elected as Board member of Alzheimer Europe.

In 2018 she received award from the President of Republic of Slovenia and from the  Minister of Labour and Social affairs, respectively, for her work in the field of dementia.

In 2022, At her and and prof. Pirtosek’s initiative, the President of Slovenia approved the establishment of the Council for Dementia in his Cabinet. In this period, she also actively participated in the Working Group at the Ministry of Health responsable for devepolping teh Dementia Strategy for the period 2023-2030. The Strategy has been finalised and is ready to be adopted. She is the member of the Initiative Board  for the National Patient Organisation. She dedicated her life and work to improving the quality of life of people with dementia and their carers.


Goran Mijaljica

Gabriela Novotni

Renaming and reframing dementias to cognitive proteinopathies in the era of biomarkers

Biografija:
Associate Prof. Gabriela Novotni is a neurologist working at the University Clinic of Neurology in Skopje, North Macedonia since 2009. In 2017, after clinical observership at Klinikum Nuremberg-Germany and Center for Memory disorders-Belgrade, Serbia, she established the Dementia outpatient clinic at the University Clinic of Neurology. In collaboration with the genetic laboratory “Prof.d-r Georgi Efremov”, Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts, a DNA bank for genetic research in dementia has been formed, and in collaboration with the Institute for nuclear medicine and Institute for immunobiology and human genetics, biomarkers (brain SPECT and CSF biomarkers) have been included in the dementia diagnostic protocol.  Dr. Novotni holds a PhD in neurology as she defended her doctoral theses ”Identification and evaluation of risk and prognostic factor for Alzheimer’s disease” in 2019. She is a founder and president of the NGO -Institute for Alzheimer’s Disease and Neuroscience. She has been involved in lectures, educational workshops, and media to rise public and professional awareness about Alzheimer’s Disease. Dr. Novotni has special interest in Alzheimer’s Disease, neurodegenerative disorders, movement disorders, neurogenetics and rare neurological disorders. She is a member of the Macedonian Neurological Society, Macedonian Physicians Society, Macedonian Medical Chamber, European Academy of Neurology and former ECTRIMS Council member.


Ljerka Pavković

Civilno društvo u mreži skrbi za oboljele od Alzheimerove bolesti

Biografija:
Ljerka Pavković zaposlena je u Toplicama Lipik- Specijalnoj bolnici za medicinsku rehabilitaciju. Diplomirala je menadžment u sestrinstvu na Veleučilištu u Zagrebu. Tijekom svoje karijere stekla je dodatno obrazovanje iz područja palijativne skrbi na CEPAMET-u Medicinskog fakulteta Sveučilišta u Zagrebu i Zagrebačkom institutu  za kulturu zdravlja te edukaciju iz područja kvalitete. Pomaže ljudima oboljelima od neizlječivih bolesti, pokrenula je i osnovala Palijativni tim LiPa čija je predsjednica. Kroz svoj rad potiče uključivanje mladih u volontiranje.  Aktivno je uključena u strategiju razvoja palijativne skrbi u Republici Hrvatskoj, posebno za  hrvatske branitelje i oboljele od Alzheimerove demencije i drugih demencija. Zbog svog iskustva u Domovinskom ratu  promiče osposobljavanje medicinskih sestara u kriznim situacijama. Promotor  je velikog broja projekata, organizator i sudionik  mnogobrojnih domaćih i međunarodnih stručnih skupova  i predsjednica Hrvatske udruge medicinskih sestara/tehničara i drugih radnika u zdravstvu Domovinskog rata.


Branko Pivac

Aparat za kavu kao jedan od modela funkcioniranja mozga

Biografija:
Dr.sc. Branko Pivac senior scientist at Ruđer Bošković Institute (RBI), retired from 2019. and now external collaborator. He received PhD from University of Zagreb on 1989 and spent several years working at different Universities in Italy (Genova, Pavia, Modena, Milano), France (CNRS-Strasbourg) and USA (Durham, NC). He was a Head of Materials physics department and a leader of the Semiconductors lab at RBI till the retirement. He was lecturer at the Faculty of Computing and Electrical Engineering and School of Medicine, University of Zagreb. He is acting Editor of the European Physical Journal Plus and at Topical advisory panel of Materials (MDPI). His research activities were focused on study of thin semiconducting and dielectric films, study of defects in semiconductors, study of materials relevant for solar cells and semiconducting nanostructures, and he was a leader of the Croatian team for the FP7 Project NANO-PV and an evaluator for EC, Slovenian and Macedonian research projects in physics and nanoscience.

He is member of Materials Research Society (MRS-USA), E-MRS, Croatian Physical Society (vice president, president), Croatian Vacuum Society (vice president, president), American Institute of Physics, Member of the Board of Referees for the Journals: Applied Physics Letters and Journal of Applied Physics, and a member of C 8 Committee of IUPAP.


Marina Šagud

Depresija i demencija: izazovi i rješenja

Biografija:
Prof. dr. sc. Marina Šagud, dr. med., izvanredna je profesorica na Sveučilištu u Zagrebu i pročelnica Zavoda za kliničku psihijatriju s intenzivnom skrbi Klinike za psihijatriju i psihološku medicinu KBC-a Zagreb.
1988. dipomirala je na Medicinskom fakultetu Sveučilišta u Zagrebu. Nakon završenog staža, od 1991. do 1993. zaposlena u farmaceutskoj tvrtki „Pliva“. Od 1993.-1997. je specijalizant, a od 1997. specijalist psihijatar u Klinici za Psihijatriju, KBC Zagreb. Doktorirala 2007., na Medicinskom fakultetu Sveučilišta u Zagrebu, pod mentorstvom prof. dr. sc. Alme Mihaljević-Peleš. Usavršavala se u Beču i Salzburgu. Od 2008. viši asistent, od 2012 docent, a od 2019. izvanredni profesor na Medicinskom fakultetu Sveučilišta u Zagrebu. Od 2014. pročelnik Zavoda za shizofreniju, a od 2019. pročelnik Zavoda za kliničku psihijatriju. Sudjelovala je kao pozvani predavač, te autor/koautor na posterima na brojnim međunarodnim i domaćim kongresima, te sudjeluje u domaćim i međunarodnim projektima. Također je autor/koautor brojnih znanstvenih radova. 
Svakodnevni rad uključuje skrb za ambulantne i hospitalne bolesnike sa psihotičnim, afektivnim, te stresom uzrokovanim poremećajima, te dodiplomsku i poslijediplomsku nastavu na Medicinskom fakultetu Sveučilišta u Zagrebu. Redovno sudjeluje u organizaciji tečajeva stalnog usavršavnja liječnika. Područja interesa su psihofarmakologija, biologija psihijatrijskih poremećaja, terapijska rezistencija, genetika te učinak stresa na organizam.


Marc Wortmann

Rights of people with dementia from a human rights perspective

Biografija:
Marc Wortmann is CEO of Marc Wortmann Consultancy in the Netherlands, supporting chronic disease and ageing organizations globally in strategy, advocacy and fundraising. He was Executive Director of Alzheimer’s Disease International (ADI) from November 2006 till June 2017.

Marc studied Law and Art in the city of Utrecht in the Netherlands and has a master’s degree in law. He was a member of the Parliament of the Province of Utrecht and worked closely with various charities and voluntary organisations.

He became Executive Director of Alzheimer Nederland in 2000. Marc joined ADI by the end of 2006 and was responsible for external contacts, public policy (especially towards World Health Organization and United Nations) and fundraising. He is a speaker at multiple events and conferences on these topics and has published a number of articles and papers on dementia awareness and public policy.

As a consultant he is still mostly involved in the Alzheimer’s and dementia movement worldwide, but also in human rights issues and the philanthropic sector as such. He is a Board member of eight NGOs including Global Human Rights Defence.
